Walmart enters the Metaverse through Roblox
Roblox, a large gaming platform, is now home to Walmart’s newest introduction to the metaverse. “Walmart Land” and “Walmart’s Universe of Play” are the retailer’s state-of-the-art games with the goal to increase customer engagement. In Walmart Land, you can engage in various games on the island; these games include Netflix Trivia, Dance off challenge, and DJ booth remix games. The game already has had over one million visits since its launch on September 12.
Walmart Land has lived musical virtual events as well as feature performances from Madison Beer, YUNGBLUD, and Kane Brown. Walmart Chief Marking Officer William claims the Roblox world is a “testing ground” for what the future may hold in the metaverse. Other companies too have tested the Roblox world as an introduction to the metaverse. For example, Chipotle has a Roblox game that rewards players in real life. The restaurant chain gave the first 30,000 players who completed a minigame a free entrée to promote their new Garlic Guajillo Steak. This shows that the metaverse is filled with endless possibilities that can shape the future of how we live.
