Bluesky Introduces ‘Flashes’: A New Era in Decentralized Photo Sharing

Bluesky has unveiled Flashes, a dedicated photo and video sharing app designed to complement its decentralized social network. Created by independent developer Sebastian Vogelsang, Flashes offers an Instagram-like experience while maintaining Bluesky’s core principles of decentralization and user control.

Flashes runs on the Authenticated Transfer (AT) Protocol, ensuring seamless integration with Bluesky. Users can share up to four photos and one-minute videos per post, with content appearing on both platforms in real time. Comments and direct messages sync across both apps, enhancing user engagement.

Inspired by the need for a visual-first social experience, Flashes gives users greater control over their content and data. Currently in beta for iOS via TestFlight, the app is expected to expand soon, reflecting a shift toward user autonomy and decentralized platforms.

As Flashes evolves, it could attract a new wave of users seeking alternatives to traditional social media. By prioritizing user control, privacy, and seamless content sharing, Flashes represents the future of decentralized, community-driven social networking.
